Re: CCW License Renewal Procedures

Individuals who obtained a license to carry a concealed weapon in 2004 will hit their four-year renewal dates in April, 2008. This notice will cover issues and procedural questions related to the renewal process.

Renewal Window:

Ohio Revised Code 2923.125 (F) provides for a renewal of a CCW License 90 days prior to and no later than 30 days after the license expires. This provides a 120-day window during which the licensee may begin the renewal process. If the licensee fails to initiate the renewal process within this 120-day period the license will expire.

Certification:

For a renewal, the licensee shall submit a certification that is not older than six years. I will use your current certification we have on file as long as the date of certification is less than six years. If you registered for classes prior to January of 2002 you will be required to submit a new certificate that meets the provision of Ohio Revised Code 2923.125 (G)

Renewal Process for licensee:

  1. Applicant can stop in our office Monday-Friday between the hours of 8:00am and 3:30pm (No appointment necessary)
  2. Office personnel will review your current application, which is on file at our office. Any changes will be made at that time. If a number of changes are made applicant will be required to fill out a new application. Applicant will also need to re-read the CCW pamphlet, which would have been provided to you during your original gun course. This should be done prior to coming to our office. A new photograph will be taken for your new permit
  3. Applicant will be required to submit a set of fingerprints using the web check. This fee is now $55.00 for a BCI check or $79.00 for a BCI/FBI check.
  4. Upon completion of your background check a new license will be issued. This new license will now indicate an expiration that is five years from date of renewal.
  5. Applicant will be required to surrender the old license before a new one is issued.

*Applications and a procedural list can also be found on our Concealed Carry Weapon page.

All questions regarding the Concealed Carry Weapons Law should be directed to Lieutenant Bob Brown at 419.774.3552
